JAWS 50th Anniversary Tour

Spend 7-Nights onboard the ultimate “Bigger Boat” the MV Rodney Fox on the ultimate great white shark expedition, with the ultimate shark host Rodney Fox himself.

Master storyteller Rodney Fox will reflect on his life spent with sharks since his renowned shark attack. On this tour he will focus on sharing the incredible time he spent coordinating the live sequences of the 2nd filming unit for the blockbuster "Jaws" shot right here in South Australia.

Although the final cut of the movie showed less than one minute of actual live great white shark sequences, the action and experience on set ended up playing a significant part in re-developing the storyline and ‘Jaws’ director Stephen credits this greatly for the success the overall feel of the film.

This tour will feature many of the elements of our normal expeditions such as shore parties around our incredible pristine coastline and islands, special presentations, swimming/diving with sea lions and of course getting up close and personal with great white sharks. However, in addition to visiting our normal current operating locations we will also look to trace the journey of the Jaws film-crew and visit some of Rodney's favourite old sharking haunts around our coastline including the famous Dangerous Reef and Memory Cove where Rodney has many old memories and great stories to tell.

We will spend a lot of time also at the North and South Neptune Island Groups where we launch the world’s only ocean floor cage (for any qualified SCUBA Divers in the group) And all guests are able to get up-close and personal with great whites in our floating surface cage. It is an expedition for divers, photographers, nature lovers, people who are very interested about sharks, and of course fans of the movie JAWS!

Come take a very rare opportunity to celebrate great white sharks with Rodney Fox himself and gain an understanding how this fictitious horror movie first had such a terrible impact scaring people about sharks, yet ironically then also played a huge part in shark research and conservation after its release in 1975.

DAY 1

We’ll meet and collect you from the Marina Hotel, Port Lincoln at 1.00 PM transfer you to the boat and officially welcome all aboard at 1.30 PM. Formal inductions and safety talk will begin, followed by being shown to your cabins to unload your belongings. Dinner will be served as we then depart for the night’s anchorage destination at either the historical Memory Cove or the famous Dangerous Reef where we will watch The Movie Jaws

*Dangerous Reef is the place where the live footage for Jaws was filmed and Memory Cove is the place where Rodney saw his biggest ever great white shark, interestingly also during the filming of Jaws.

DAY 2

An early departure to the Neptune Islands for breakfast and to dive with Great White Sharks.

Wake up to the sunrise at North Neptune Islands and at this time of year you’ll be likely spot a few big dorsal fins straight away. Divers are briefed, and the surface cage hits the water, ready for action. Our priority is for everyone to see the sharks in the surface cage before we descend deeper with any of our SCUBA qualified diving guests in the ocean floor cage.

After the exhilaration of the sharks, there is time to relax, unwind, talk about the day while feasting on the buffet, engage in the Great White Shark Research Talk (really interesting, with some fantastic photography), check out the amazing night-sky and retire to your cabin.

DAY 3

On Location at the Neptune Islands more time to spend Surface and Ocean Floor diving – there is no time limit in the cages if everyone has their fair share. You can also do some Shark and Wildlife watching from the observation deck, relax with a book in a deck chair – anything that floats your boat.

We also like to hop in the tender boat, check out the Fur Seal colony and
Tender boat ride and/or shore parties on Neptune Island when conditions allow go walking around the Neptune Islands. Here, there are many bird species to watch, and the elusive Australian Sea Lions can also sometimes be spotted.

The evening brings more opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty of the Neptune Islands, listening to the sounds of the seals with a chilled glass of white or a warm glass of renowned South Australian red. There is plenty time to chill out and rest and of course be entertained with more stories from Rodney.

DAY 4

More shark diving and shark watching opportunities at a new dive location around the Neptune Islands before an afternoon departure onwards to Dangerous Reef (or alternatively Memory Cove) with dinner served enroute or upon arrival.

After Dinner the Nighttime stories begin. Dangerous Reef is the ideal location for Rodney to share his own incredible miracle survival story, an unbeatable shark tale from perhaps the world’s most famous shark attack survivor.

DAY 5

After breakfast at Dangerous Reef, we have a short ride over to Hopkins Island where we we can snorkel or SCUBA dive with the extremely cute and very photogenic Australian Sea Lions.

We also can use this opportunity to stretch our legs on remote beach in The Thorny passage and check out the wildlife including the incredibly lovely black footed rock wallaby.

Over lunch we travel back to to the Neptune Islands for an afternoon/evening diving at a fresh location with Great White Sharks. Tender boat rides and/or shore parties on Neptune Island when shark activity and conditions allow.

DAY 6

A last potential full day's shark diving and observing at a new dive location around the Neptune Island Group. Tender boat tours at the new location or shore party again are subject to weather and shark activity.

Quiz Night and party Shirt Night with a complementary Cocktail designed by Rodney.

DAY 7

Last Shark Dives in the morning, and then Depart Neptune Islands after lunch. Then it's time to enjoy some lovely local South Australian ‘wine on the bow’ usually with common dolphins joining us for company as we head back to the mainland for a last celebratory dinner onboard and arriving later in the evening at Port Lincoln.
